If you are asked to fast for a test procedure, DO NOT eat or drink fluids for 12 hours. Caffeine and sugar will affect your test results. You may have small sips of water.

Semen Analysis
Semen analysis testing is performed in Seattle at Quest Diagnostics Lab. An appointment must be made directly with the Quest Diagnostic Microbiology department 800.877.0051. A completed Quest requisition must accompany the sample. Appointments are available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The patient will need to present for appointment at Quest Diagnostics, 1737 Airport Way, Suite #200, Seattle, WA 98134-1636.

Sputum Cytology
Your physician will ask you to collect three early morning sputum specimens for cytology. We will provide you with a kit with three tubes filled with Cytorich Red fixative which will preserve your specimens. Included with the three tubes is a pink requisition which will need to be filled out after collection. The laboratory will help you complete them.
Stool Collections
General Collection Procedures
Use a thoroughly cleaned bed pan, wide-mouthed container or a plastic bag/plastic wrap placed over the toilet seat for collection. For pediatric patients, use a Pedi-bag for collections. Soiled diapers will NOT be accepted.

It is recommended to start a high residue diet starting two days prior to and continuing through the test period.
If any of the above foods are known to cause discomfort, consult your physician.

Preparation
Collection
24-hour Collections
The laboratory will provide you with a 24-hour urine jug or bottle. This bottle may contain preservatives. Do not pour out the liquid or powder in the bottle. Do not touch, drink, or handle the preservatives in any way. Add only urine to the bottle. Exact timing of collection and completeness of collection is very important. Keep the bottle refrigerated during the collection process.
Tests that Require a Blood Draw
A Creatinine Clearance Test will require a blood draw within 72 hours of 24hr urine collection. This is required to calculate your Creatinine Clearance. You can have this drawn when you return your 24hr urine collection.
Urine Tests with Special Dietary Requirements
5-HIAA (SEROTONIN) For three days prior to starting collection, avoid avocados, bananas, eggplant, pineapple, plums and walnuts.
