Healthy holiday foods event set for December 11 at KVH Hospital

Planning a healthy menu that everyone can enjoy is sometimes a challenge – especially during the holiday season.  KVH Hospital will hold a free healthy holiday foods event designed to make healthy meal preparation an easier task.  The event will be held on Wednesday, December 11 at 6 p.m. in the KVH Hospital Café.

The free session will begin with information about fruits and vegetables.  Special attention will be paid to the starchy and non-starchy categories of vegetables, and leafy greens, focusing on produce that is in season.

Immediately following, participants will be able to sample five different healthy holiday recipes including Savory Pumpkin Hummus, Carrot-Apple Spice Cake, and Roasted Sweet Potato and Apple Salad.  The featured holiday foods were chosen specifically to control blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, which is especially important for those with diabetes.

Copies of the recipes will be available to take home, or can be found here.

Individuals with diabetes are invited to arrive at 5:30 p.m. to speak with diabetes educators.
