Nationally recognized physician Gary Bos of KVH Orthopedics will give a short presentation on living with arthritis at KVH Family Medicine – Cle Elum on September 19.
Arthritis is a general word for more than 100 diseases and conditions that affect joints, the tissues which surround the joint, and other connective tissue. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States. About 50 million adults in the United States have arthritis, and nearly 21 million adults report that their activities are limited by their condition.
The presentation will focus on methods of managing arthritis pain. “Living with arthritis can be extremely painful,” according to Dr. Gary Bos of Kittitas Valley Orthopedics. “The focus of arthritis treatment is to control pain and minimize joint damage. In some cases, joint replacement surgery can provide incredible pain relief, but it is not a decision that is ever made lightly.”
Some patients have had success in managing their arthritis pain by losing weight, exercising lightly on a regular basis, taking warm baths, and taking anti-inflammatory or arthritis-specific medications.
The session is free and open to the public. Dr. Bos will begin his presentation at 5:30 p.m. and hold a question and answer session immediately following.
