Local women’s healthcare providers Dr. Ginger Longo and Teresa Beckett will host a free informational seminar about menopause on Wednesday, March 13. This year, the seminar will be held at KVH Family Medicine – Cle Elum. For the past two years, a similar seminar has been held at KVH Hospital in Ellensburg. Attendance has averaged about 50 people each year.
Menopause is a natural life change that usually occurs in women between age 40 and 55, and leads to the permanent absence of menstruation. Menopause affects every woman differently, though about 70% of women will experience some symptoms, such as hot flashes or sleep disturbances.
Longo and Beckett will speak about the symptoms of menopause, treatments and lifestyle changes that may relieve symptoms, and routine care for menopausal women.
“We feel very passionately about providing women with information so they know what to expect at menopause,” said Teresa Beckett, physician assistant and advanced registered nurse practitioner. “Though menopause is natural, it is a change in a woman’s life and it can have a big impact on her – both physically and emotionally.”
The free seminar will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 at KVH Family Medicine – Cle Elum. The facility is located at 201 Alpha Way in Cle Elum. Light refreshments will be provided.
