Kittitas Valley Physical Therapy, a service of KVCH, will host a free informational session on May 16 offering running advice. Designed for all levels of runners, three local experts will speak and answer questions.
Leo D'Acquisto, PhD, will talk about the biomechanics of running, including information on how to prevent injuries and become a more efficient runner. Specifically, Dr. D'Acquisto will talk about the phases of the running cycle - from foot strike to take off and swing phases.
Robert Pritchett, PhD, will discuss training adaptations to running. These tips may help runners improve their posture or breathing while running. Dr. Pritchett will also cover stabilization techniques and exercises to improve self-awareness of body functions.
Kelly Kerr-Pritchett, PhD, will discuss nutrition and the runner. Dr. Kerr-Pritchett will offer advice on post-workout meals and give example meal ideas.
Running or jogging can be incorporated into a regular exercise schedule. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a mix of aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities each week; running or jogging are considered vigorous-intensity aerobic activities.
"The advice that these speakers have to offer can help eliminate bad running habits that may lead to injury," according to Ken Kladnik, Director of Kittitas Valley Physical Therapy. "Any level of runner can benefit from this workshop."
The free informational session will be held on May 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Kittitas Valley Physical Therapy, located at 301 E Mountain View Avenue in Ellensburg. Door prizes will be offered.
