Planning a healthy menu that everyone can enjoy is sometimes a challenge – especially during the holiday season. KVH Hospital is holding a free event designed to make healthy meal preparation an easier task. The event is on Thursday, December 3 at 6 p.m. in the KVH Hospital Café.
Whole Foods for the Holidays will focus on cooking with “foods that are as close to their natural form as possible,” according to Mary Jo Morrissey, Director of Food and Nutrition Services at KVH Hospital.
The free session will include an overview of whole foods and whole food cooking. Those who attend can enjoy sampling fresh dishes prepared with whole foods, and take home the recipes.
According to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, the foods you eat may be protective against chronic diseases. Whole and unrefined foods such as whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and dark green, yellow, or orange-fleshed vegetables and fruits contain high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants.
The annual holiday foods event is sponsored by the KVH Diabetes Education and Support Group, and the recipes chosen are ideal for controlling blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, which is especially important for those with diabetes.
