During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kittitas Valley Healthcare will hold a cancer support open house. The open house will provide information about local resources available for cancer awareness, prevention, treatment, and support.
The session, which will be held on Tuesday, October 14, is free and open to the public. Individuals may drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Information available will be tailored to breast cancer, but will also be useful for those who have been affected by other types of cancer. Specific items addressed will include local support groups and programs, nutrition and therapies, fundraising and awareness, and mammogram options for women who do not have health insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the preventive screening test.
Breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in Washington State, and about 20 to 30 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in Kittitas County. According to the National Cancer Institute, about one in eight women will be affected by breast cancer at some time during her life.
The open house will be held in the upstairs conference rooms at KVH Hospital. For more information, contact Karen Schock at (509) 962-7322.
