The Kittitas Valley Healthcare Diabetes Education and Support Group is seeking new members. This free education and support group is designed for people who have diabetes or those who have family members with the disease.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at KVH Hospital, except for December, January, June, and July. A short discussion and sharing session begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by an educational presentation from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Educational programs cover many aspects of living well with diabetes including healthy cooking, carbohydrate counting, the newest glucose testing devices, and the importance of exercise, weight control, foot care, and dental care.
The next meeting, to be held May 14, will discuss the importance of diet in controlling diabetes. Attendees will hear a presentation entitled “Your Mother Was Right...Vegetables Are Important.” This presentation will explain how to choose the freshest vegetables, the difference between organic and regular produce, and the health benefits of vegetables. There will also be snacks from vegetable-based recipes for attendees to sample.
