Kittitas Valley Community Hospital was presented with an Employer Appreciation Award from Central Washington University on May 17, 2012.
Since 2003, CWU has presented an annual Employer Appreciation Award to a company, business, non-profit, or entity that has demonstrated outstanding assistance to students to support their career transition. KVCH is the recipient of the award for 2012.
Over the past 18 months, KVCH provided 13 formal internships to CWU students in six major fields of study. Director of Volunteer Services Karen Schock was able to place these 13 students with eight supervisors. At KVCH, students were able to work in the areas of Diabetes Education, Food and Nutrition Services, Employee Health and Infection Control, Information Systems, The Foundation at KVCH, Emergency Department, Rehabilitation Services, and Physical Therapy.
"I strongly believe that both the student and the organization benefit from a volunteer experience," says Schock. "In addition, helping students meet their personal and professional goals is very rewarding."
At any time, KVCH has about 35 active student volunteers and 65 active "in-service" volunteers who serve in 25 departments. If you are interested in volunteering at KVCH, please contact Karen Schock at (509) 962-7322.
