Kittitas Valley Community Hospital will conduct a training exercise on Thursday, August 9 at 9 a.m. The exercise will simulate the response to an individual displaying a weapon within the hospital and is expected to last about 15 minutes.
During the exercise, the hospital facility will undergo a lockdown requiring a key for entry. Staff will be on hand at the front entrance to allow patients into the building. Patients and visitors who are already inside the building at the time of the exercise will be asked to participate by moving to a pre-identified safe location. If patients do not wish to participate or are unable to participate, they will not be required to do so.
Ellensburg Police Department will also be on scene to help KVCH staff evaluate the internal response to the simulated threat.
